Caring Unlimited is York County’s Domestic Violence Resource Center. We offer direct support and safety planning services to anyone impacted by domestic violence, along with prevention education, training, and professional consultation.

We are hiring a Domestic Violence Court Advocate! In this position, you will be a member of the outreach services team, assisting victims of domestic violence access civil legal resources and understand their options while navigating complex civil legal systems.

What you will do:

In this role, you will work directly with victims of domestic violence and provide court advocacy to those seeking assistance with protection orders, divorce, parental rights and responsibilities, and other matters not requiring the services of a licensed attorney. You will help survivors to access resources that help them make informed decisions about their legal options.

In addition you will:

  • Support survivors seeking legal services: You will provide direct support to survivors via client intakes, individualized safety planning, and referrals to internal and external resources. You will also offer consistent emotional support and provide court accompaniment as clients navigate court processes and make challenging legal decisions.
  • Navigate the legal system: You will assist our clients in understanding and completing legal forms, helping them prepare for, and move through, court processes. You will help our staff attorneys by assisting with scheduling, record-keeping, managing other court-related paperwork, and conducting conflict checks. You will assist in facilitating PFA agreements when desired by both parties.
  • Perform general office work: You will participate in staff development training, staff meetings, and routine office coordination. You will assist in shared 24-hour helpline coverage and backup as scheduled, including being on call for occasional nights and weekends. You will maintain appropriate records, statistical information, and complete and submit required reports in a timely manner. You will follow established policies and procedures and comply with all safety requirements. You will also perform other tasks and projects as assigned.
  • Complete special projects: You will play an occasional role in volunteer training, public awareness events, and fundraising efforts. You will also participate in regional and statewide meetings and trainings as appropriate. Some overtime will be required, as will travel throughout York County.

You will also bring:

  • Knowledge and sensitivity to issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking
  • An associate’s degree in a related field, or the equivalent, along with closely-related work or personal experience.
  • Ability to complete Caring Unlimited’s required advocacy training and Child Protective Services orientation provided by the Office of Child and Family Services within 6 months of start date.
  • Experience working both independently and collaboratively, with colleagues and community partners, to ensure survivor-centered support.
  • Initiative in managing a steady caseload, while staying organized and managing time effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, and experience building positive working relationships with colleagues, volunteers, clients, partner agencies and community members.
  • The demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client, coworker, and internal business information.
  • The ability to work comfortably in a general office environment, using standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office, and database systems. You may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
