Patient Care Assistant

Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Patient Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to patients across various settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. This position requires a strong understanding of patient care protocols, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Duties

• Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, and feeding.
• Monitor and record vital signs and report any significant changes to the nursing staff.
• Provide support in administering medications as directed by healthcare providers.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
• Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for patient documentation.
• Assist in mobility and transportation of patients using equipment such as Hoyer lifts.
• Engage with patients suffering from various conditions including Alzheimer's, dementia, and developmental disabilities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients through regular sanitation practices.
• Participate in ongoing training and education related to patient care techniques and medical terminology.

Experience

Candidates should possess experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Critical care experience in settings such as ICU or Level I/II trauma centers.
• Medical office experience or long-term care experience in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or providing hospice care.
• Familiarity with phlebotomy procedures, medication administration, and basic life support techniques.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical documentation practices is essential.
• Previous roles in emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, outpatient clinics, or home care are advantageous.
