Responsibilities
- Safely operate box trucks and tractor-trailers, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and dump trucks, following all DOT (Department of Transportation) and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Plan and execute over-the-road (OTR) driving routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and routes.
- Load and unload freight efficiently, utilizing manual handling techniques and equipment such as forklifts when necessary.
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Deliver freight accurately to designated locations, ensuring the load is secured during transit and properly documented upon delivery.
- Maintain vehicle safety by conducting pre-trip inspections, routine maintenance checks, and reporting any issues promptly.
- Follow all safety protocols during truck loading/unloading, cargo handling, and transportation processes to prevent accidents or damages.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery status, route changes, or any incidents encountered on the road.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including delivery driving with box trucks or tractor-trailers.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or dump trucks is preferred.
- Knowledge of logistics cargo handling procedures and truck loading/unloading techniques.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), with endorsements for hazardous materials (Hazmat) preferred.
- Experience navigating GPS systems for route planning on over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Understanding of DOT regulations related to driver hours of service, vehicle safety inspections, and hazardous materials transportation.
- Prior experience with freight delivery in various environments including flatbed or tanker operations is advantageous.
