POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to ensure excellent quality of care in the medical department. The Medical Transcriptionist will a require a skill set that includes a strong knowledge of medical terminology, strong computer skills, good listening skills, attention to detail, ability, strong grammatical skills, and the ability to construct comprehensive accurate documentation for the patient’s chart.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists providers in guiding patients to designated exam rooms.
- Assists providers with navigating Athena EMR system and documents chief complaint, review of systems, history of present illness.
- Assists in conducting physical examination, and determining assessment/plan.
- Assists providers with inputting prescriptions, labs, and diagnostic image in our EMR system as needed.
- Transcribes medical dictation into written medical records.
- Translates and conveys patient clinical information on behalf of the providers.
- Reviews patient charts for accurate and complete documentation.
- Performs daily inbox check with the providers.
- Ensures exam rooms remain clean and disinfected after each patient.
· Complies with protocols and standard operations procedures established for organizing medical records in the EMR system,
· Maintains legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and maintains confidentiality in correlation with HIPPAA.
· Trains volunteer Medical Scribes.
· Complies with all state and federal regulations.
· Works as a team player and has flexibility with work schedule.
· Other duties are as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLDEGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS)
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
- Trilingual (English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole) preferred.
- High school diploma required
- College degree, or current enrollment in a degree-seeking program in the medical field preferred.
- 2 years of experience with an EMR system in a hospital or medical setting.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Effective collaboration, communication, and documentation skills.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to stand, walk, and follow a physician for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to handle high stress- situations effectively.
- Excellent time-management skills.
- Complies with all HIPPA Regulations.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly with great attention to detail
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule; including Saturdays.
