Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant provides direct and indirect patient care while promoting patient comfort, dignity, safety, and independence. The CNA assists with personal care needs, monitors patient status, and contributes to a positive patient experience.
Essential Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Provide personal care including bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, dressing, and changing linens.
- Support patients with morning and evening care routines.
- Obtain and accurately document vital signs, weights, and intake/output measurements.
- Assist with meal setup, feeding, and hydration while following dietary restrictions.
- Help patients with toileting, peri-care, and hygiene needs.
- Safely assist with mobility, transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Observe and promptly report changes in patient condition, including pain, skin concerns, or behavioral changes.
- Provide comfort-focused and end-of-life care when needed.
- Respond promptly and professionally to patient requests and call lights.
Patient Support & Team Collaboration
- Complete daily assignments efficiently and accurately.
- Communicate effectively with nurses and other healthcare team members.
- Participate in shift reports and patient handoffs.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe patient care areas.
- Follow infection prevention and safety protocols at all times.
- Foster a respectful and compassionate experience for patients and families.
- Assist with basic clerical and unit support duties as needed.
Indirect Patient Care
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of nursing units, utility rooms, kitchens, and equipment.
- Prepare patient rooms for admissions and coordinate with housekeeping as needed.
- Ensure patient care areas remain safe and free of hazards.
- Properly use, clean, and maintain patient care equipment, including mechanical lifts.
Professional Responsibilities
- Complete required training, competencies, and continuing education.
- Participate in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
- Follow all hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Accurately complete required documentation.
- Maintain a professional, safe, and organized work environment.
Work Environment:
This position is based in a hospital setting and requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, and patient assistance activities. Team members may be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and bodily fluids, cleaning agents, and occasionally challenging patient or visitor situations. Adherence to all safety and infection-control practices is required.
