Carex is partnering with a Telecom industry partner to find a Contract COBOL Developer to support a billing and revenue management team operating in a fully remote environment. This role will work on critical billing applications and legacy systems running on Linux servers with Micro Focus emulation, leveraging COBOL, JCL, SQL, and PL/SQL technologies. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver who brings analytical thinking, accountability, collaboration, and a desire to contribute ideas that help evolve the team and its processes.

What You'll Do

• Support and enhance billing and revenue management applications and systems.
• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot COBOL and JCL programs within a Micro Focus/Linux environment.
• Write and optimize SQL and PL/SQL queries against Oracle databases.
• Analyze production issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver reliable billing and revenue management functionality.
• Participate in system maintenance, enhancements, and modernization efforts where appropriate.
• Create and maintain reporting solutions utilizing FOCUS reporting tools when needed.
• Contribute ideas and recommendations that improve team processes, efficiency, and overall system performance.
• Research solutions independently while effectively communicating progress and seeking support when necessary.
• Support a culture where collaboration, accountability, and innovation drive decision-making.
  
  
  

What You'll Bring

• Professional experience developing and supporting applications using COBOL and JCL.
• Experience working with Oracle databases, including SQL and PL/SQL development.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote team environment across multiple time zones.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated accountability and ownership of assigned work.
• Ability to balance independent problem-solving with appropriate escalation and collaboration.
• Experience supporting billing, revenue management, financial, telecommunications, or other high-volume transaction processing systems is preferred.
• Experience with Micro Focus environments and Linux-based systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of CICS and FOCUS reporting tools is a plus.
