Job Summary
In the ICU of a hospital, patients are often in critical condition and need constant monitoring and care. ICU nurses review data from special equipment to track a patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and other vitals. They also carry out more traditional nursing duties such as administering medications and communicating with patients regarding their condition.
Essential Functions
Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects.
Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs.
Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs. Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary.
Transcribes, verifies and carries out physician orders in an accurate and timely manner
Manages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately.
Initiates and effectively maintains IV therapy.
Follows the 5 “rights” when administering medications.
Coordinates patient care and verifies, coordinates and carries out physicians orders accurately.
Coordinates interdepartmental activities (i.e. lab, radiology, etc).To ensure timely, efficient care.
Coordinates interdepartmental transfer smoothly and efficiently.
Communicates and coordinates with Case Manager to ensure timely discharge, patient satisfaction and quality care along the continuing of care

Minimum Education/Certifications
Graduate of an accredited program in nursing.
Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of NJ.
Certifications required: BLS (American Heart Association). ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
2 year or more experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Vent Care Experience.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
