Landscape Maintenance Gardener

Summary/Objective

We currently have a full time position available for Maintenance Laborer. The Maintenance Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled landscape tasks including horticulture, grounds maintenance, and equipment operation; perform related work as required, and will drive the company truck on the specified route.

Essential Functions

• Follows directions from the Crew Leader; performs landscape maintenance functions (e.g., pulling weeds, raking leaves, sweeping sidewalks, and cleaning debris) and plants vegetation
• Clears ditches, digs holes, and performs handwork as necessary using a pick, shovel, or other hand tools
• Waters vegetation using a hose; cleans canals, drains, and tree wells; operates light landscape equipment (e.g., 21" mower, leaf blower, weed eater, stick edger, and hedge trimmer)
• Operates demanding landscape equipment (e.g., 36", 48" and riding lawn mowers) and Maintains tools and equipment to ensure safety
• Recognizes areas for improvement in the landscape and communicates this to the Crew Leader/Crew Foreman
• Thinks ahead and completes tasks efficiently within budget and timelines
• Applies chemicals (e.g., fertilizer, Round Up, Fusillade) to landscape
• Uses chemical application equipment (e.g., spray tank, belly grinder)
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record Required
• Working in the high Arizona desert heat where temperatures could get as high as 120 degrees.

Required Experience/Skills/Licenses

• Previous landscape maintenance experience - required
• Valid drivers license WITH acceptable Motor Vehicle Record - preferred

Work Environment

• Will work outside all shift in extreme temperatures and weather conditions including sun, rain, wind
• Will be in direct sunlight for extended periods of time daily

Physical Requirements

•  Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• In this role you will frequently stand, walk, climb or crouch on narrow and/or slippery surfaces; stoop, kneel, bend to pick up or move objects; walk for long distances and on sloped ground and uneven surfaces; move, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles
• Ability to work full shifts outdoors in all types of changing and extreme weather conditions including direct sun, extreme heat including temperatures over 100 degrees for more than one hour at a time, cold, rain and snow
• Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound
• Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
• The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operates machines, and landscaping construction equipment where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
• The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise level

To worksite maybe required.
