Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support clinical procedures such as catheter care, wound dressing changes, and basic medication administration under supervision.
- Ensure patient safety by utilizing safe lifting practices with equipment like Hoyer lifts and adhering to infection control protocols including aseptic techniques.
- Document patient observations thoroughly in medical records while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect confidentiality.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care plans for patients with complex needs such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or behavioral health conditions.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, especially those requiring memory care or residing in long-term or assisted living facilities.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) recognized by the state licensing board.
- Experience working with geriatric populations or in long-term care facilities is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting and safe patient transfers using equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Critical care experience or background in specialized areas such as ICU, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams caring for individuals with disabilities or complex medical needs.
