Job Summary
The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver is responsible for the safe, reliable, and professional transportation of clients to and from medical appointments, treatments, and other approved destinations throughout Virginia. The driver provides courteous door-to-door or curb-to-curb service, assists passengers as needed, and ensures full compliance with all state and company standards for NEMT operations.
Key Responsibilities
· Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments, dialysis treatments, therapy sessions, hospital discharges, and other authorized destinations.
· Provide door-to-door, curb-to-curb, or hand-to-hand assistance, as required by the client’s service level.
· Assist passengers with mobility challenges, including those using wheelchairs, walkers, or portable oxygen.
· Properly secure wheelchairs using at least four tie-down straps and both lap and shoulder belts, in accordance with Virginia NEMT regulations.
· Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle is clean, safe, and in good working condition.
· Follow all assigned schedules, routes, and dispatch instructions accurately and efficiently.
· Complete required trip documentation. Including mileage logs, client signatures, and time records, and submit them promptly.
· Maintain open communication with dispatch regarding delays, incidents, or changes in trip status.
· Operate in full compliance with company policies, HIPAA regulations, and Virginia DMAS NEMT requirements.
· Respond appropriately to emergencies or client medical distress by contacting dispatch and/or emergency services (911) as needed.
· Ensure compliance with all Virginia licensing, insurance, and safety standards for NEMT vehicles.
· Maintain a professional, compassionate, and respectful demeanor toward all clients, caregivers, and staff.
· Report any vehicle malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents to management immediately.
Qualifications
· Valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record.
· Minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience (NEMT or passenger transport preferred).
· Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and DMV record review.
· CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
· Strong communication and customer service skills.
· Physical ability to assist passengers safely and to secure mobility devices.
Work Environment
This position requires driving in varying weather conditions across Virginia. Drivers must be able to assist clients safely in entering and exiting the vehicle and perform occasional lifting of mobility
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
