Reports to: Vice President of Programs & Policy

Works Closely With: Director of Communications

Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Position Summary

Caregiver Action Network is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Program & Community Manager to help expand and strengthen CAN's programs, educational initiatives, and caregiver engagement efforts. This individual will play a critical role in managing caregiver-facing programs, cultivating and moderating online communities, and serving as an ambassador for CAN across virtual and in-person settings.

The ideal candidate is passionate about healthcare advocacy, understands the caregiver experience, and is skilled at building meaningful relationships with diverse communities. They will work closely with the Vice President of Programs & Policy and partner regularly with the Director of Communications to ensure CAN's programs and community engagement efforts align with organizational goals and audience needs.

Key Responsibilities


Program Management & Engagement

• Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of caregiver-focused programs, educational initiatives, outreach, and resource offerings. 

• Assist in the development and promotion of caregiver education modules, toolkits, and support resources. 

• Track program participation, outcomes, and engagement metrics, providing regular reporting and recommendations for improvement. 

• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful program delivery and participant experience. 

• Identify opportunities to expand caregiver engagement and strengthen CAN's program portfolio. 

Community Management

• Manage and grow CAN's online communities across platforms including Meta (Facebook), LinkedIn, and other emerging digital channels. 

• Foster meaningful engagement by creating discussions, responding to community inquiries, and maintaining a welcoming and supportive environment. 

• Monitor conversations and trends impacting family caregivers and bring insights back to program and communications teams. 

• Develop strategies to increase community participation, retention, and member satisfaction. 

• Coordinate community campaigns, virtual events, and peer engagement opportunities. 

Advocacy & External Representation

• Serve as a public-facing representative of CAN at conferences, community events, partner meetings, and stakeholder gatherings. 

• Present information about CAN's programs, resources, educational modules, and caregiver support services to diverse audiences. 

• Build and maintain relationships with healthcare, advocacy, nonprofit, and community-based organizations. 

• Stay informed on developments within the healthcare, caregiving, aging, disability, and patient advocacy landscapes. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with the Communications team to support content promotion, storytelling, campaigns, and community engagement efforts. 

• Collaborate with the Programs & Policy team to identify caregiver needs and inform future program development. 

• Support data collection, reporting, and organizational learning efforts. 


Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. 

• 3–5 years of experience in program management, community engagement, healthcare advocacy, nonprofit management, or related fields. 

• Demonstrated understanding of healthcare, caregiving, patient advocacy, disability, aging, or public health landscapes, including key stakeholders and organizations. 

• Experience managing and growing online communities across social and professional platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and similar channels. 

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

• Comfortable presenting to groups and representing an organization in public settings. 

• Ability to work collaboratively across teams while also managing projects independently. 

Preferred

• Personal or family caregiving experience. 

• Experience working with patient advocacy, healthcare, nonprofit, or community-based organizations. 

• Experience using CRM platforms and constituent engagement systems. 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook, as well as project management and collaboration platforms such as Asana and HubSpot.

• Familiarity with virtual event platforms, community engagement tools, and data reporting systems.

Work Environment

This position is based in Washington, DC, and follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular in-office collaboration and participation in local events. Occasional travel may be required for conferences, community events, and partner meetings.
