The Senior Strategy Associate is a member of the Enterprise Strategy / Business Consulting Group engaged in the conduct of strategy-phase projects aligned to CareFirst's corporate goals. The role acts as an internal consultant to senior leadership across the organization, providing strategic insights, thought-leadership and decision-support towards addressing our business's most pressing challenges. This position will interact frequently with and support senior and executive leadership as part of a team.

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Essential Functions
- Strategy consulting: Contributes to project scoping, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and the building of storyboards as part of a project team. Independently leads project workstreams and smaller consulting engagements with the support of a project lead. Takes responsibility for discrete portions of a project storyboard, proposing analyses to answer specific project questions, gathering qualitative and quantitative data and conducting analyses. Presents analyses and recommendations clearly and concisely supported by compelling written communications and slide decks. Proactively seeks to understand workstream goals and how own work fits within broader project. Cultivates understanding of health care sector and CareFirst business.
- Stakeholder engagement: Proactively Identifies and builds rapport with key stakeholders, e.g., peers, subject matter experts, leaders, across the organization. Collaborates with stakeholders to gather data, solicit input on analyses, gain buy in for project findings and / or drive to a decision.
- Executive Leadership Team (ELT) & Board: Support, as needed, ad hoc and ongoing activities, including: enterprise and P&L strategic planning processes; periodic creation of points of view on strategic topics; offsite facilitation, among others.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a strategy consulting firm.
- MBA, MPH, or MS with an emphasis in a quantitative and analytical discipline (e.g., Finance, Economics, Mathematics) preferred.
- Understanding of healthcare marketplace dynamics and healthcare financial and operational reporting.
- Ambiguity: Ability to structure ambiguous business problems, develop hypotheses, and apply a systematic approach to solving strategic and operational problems.
- Analytical skills: ability to synthesize and create a cohesive picture from a wide variety of information types, as well as to assess strategic implications.
- Collaboration: Ability to build collaborative, productive relationships with internal clients and information sources.
- Facilitation: Strong facilitation skills and the ability to take a leadership role with both peers and those more senior.
- Communications: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues and findings to CEO, Board, executive, and peer audiences.
- Self-starter: Independent/resourceful and self-starter. Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Tools: Advanced competency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and / or other analytical tools.
