Job Purpose: The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-level database systems. This role ensures optimal performance, security, and reliability of databases through advanced tuning, complex query development, and strategic planning. The position oversees production support operations, including ticket management, change control, and on-call rotations, while also driving initiatives for data security, system patching, and integration with broader IT solutions. As a senior technical resource, this role collaborates across teams and leads database development projects to support organizational goals and scalability with an emphasis on Microsoft SQL Server.
Essential Duties:
- Document and maintain comprehensive database processes, procedures, and run book documentation.
- Assign, manage, and oversee production support tickets to ensure timely resolution.
- Lead production change control activities to maintain system stability and compliance.
- Participate in and help coordinate a tiered 24/7 on-call rotation for production support.
- Review, prioritize, and schedule remediation of database-related security vulnerabilities.
- Perform advanced database performance tuning and optimization to ensure high availability and efficiency.
- Plan, schedule, and manage patching of database systems to maintain security and operational integrity.
- Develop and implement robust data security measures to protect sensitive information.
- Write, refine, and optimize complex SQL queries to support business intelligence and application performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to integrate and align database solutions with enterprise systems.
- Lead the design and development of scalable and efficient database architectures.
- Support testing and troubleshooting of database systems to ensure functionality and reliability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience with database performance tuning.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Familiarity with commonly used database programming tools
- Experience with database design and normalization.
- Strong experience with database design and optimization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Experience with least-privilege security principles
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts
- Experience implementing role-based access control concepts
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of experience in database administration or a related field
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Platform specific certifications (ex. Oracle, Microsoft, Snowflake, etc.)
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
- Occasionally, this position may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
