Supervise, lead, coordinate the activities of St. Maries Maintenance employees. Responsible for assigned areas to maximize productivity and minimize cost while maintaining safety and quality. Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of plant equipment, organizing and monitoring work processes, and coordination of outside contractors. Supervise and lead maintenance personnel. Perform other duties as assigned. Position reports to SM Complex Maintenance Superintendent for craft and mill assigned.
The rate for this position is $44.18 per hour.
Leadership and Personnel

Work with the maintenance Superintendent to plan and schedule the detailed operations of the assigned areas while ensuring premium service to all external and internal customers.

Provide leadership and development of employees through training, coaching, corrective actions, and feedback. Encourage employee involvement, information sharing, problem solving. Share issues of concern with Maintenance Superintendents, Multi-Site Manager and HR.

Monitor employee performance and adherence to respective rules, standards, and expectations. Maintain personnel records and execute performance evaluations.

Interface respectfully daily with Maintenance Superintendent, direct reports, department supervisors, purchasing, peers, coworkers, and contractors.

Assign tasks/work orders and follow up with crew to ensure that work is completed on schedule.

Identify and correct any potential problems (troubleshooting) and take appropriate action necessary to prevent serious equipment failure. Monitor Predictive and Preventative Maintenance (PM) activities and follow up to maximize machine efficiency and availability.

Assess the needs of the crew and implement developmental processes with the Maintenance Superintendent (e.g., coaching, counselling, taking corrective action, mentoring, etc.) to continuously improve their performance.

Plan effective use of available resources and assist in the development of process, design, and operational improvements.

Identify possible cost savings in all areas of operation.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge/expertise.

Assist operations to achieve budgeted production rates.

Provide information and training for crew on all equipment and processes in area of responsibility.

Coordinate activities of outside contractors in compliance with the site’s contractor program.
Safety & Environmental

Instruct, maintain, and promote a safe working atmosphere. Emphasize safe working behaviors and employee accountability. Report unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Lead and participate in all safety activities. Adhere to all Supervisor Safety Rules and Responsibilities. Regularly audit employee’s safety performance. Maintain a safe facility and a work climate conducive to safe working practices. Stress lock-out tag-out with each employee.

Provide information and training on OSHA rules and regulations and additional site procedures ensuring that all safety methods are in place, fully implemented, and training documented to guarantee a safe, clean, and healthy work environment for all employees and contractors.

Conduct crew safety meetings as required.

Aid in spill clean-up and report all spills to Environmental Manager
Financial, Quality and Production

Control costs, quality, and lead cost reduction efforts for your area of responsibility.

Provide operational and capital budget input.

Provide an atmosphere that leads to continual improvement in safety, quality and productivity. Stress the importance of Customer Service for both maintenance and plant services (if applicable).

Maintain good working relationships with other departments in the mill.
-
Monitor and record timekeeping for direct reports, ensure good use of company time.

Aid purchasing department by improving the inventory and keep full parts system.
Requirements:
- Four (4) years’ experience in the trade you are supervising.
- Ability to perform the work in the trade you are supervising on the floor.
- Hydraulics, Pneumatics, welding, electrical troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Experience in operation of heavy equipment, cranes, Ariel lifts, confined spaces, safe work, and hot work preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required, trade school degree or apprenticeship preferred.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, and internet research. Intermediate proficiency in computerized management maintenance programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to motivate others.
- Demonstrated expertise with solving problems related to people, process, and equipment.
- Demonstrated organizational, planning, and project management skills.
