Transportation Planning Manager

Muller Engineering Company is seeking an energetic, highly motivated professional to support our transportation and traffic practices in Colorado. This position will build upon Muller’s long-standing presence delivering transportation consulting services to a broad array of public-sector clients. Primary focuses of this position will include the development of corridor plans and studies, Safe Streets for All plans, road safety audits, and active transportation plans. Additional planning areas may include multimodal transportation planning, regional planning, and implementation of projects identified in existing planning documents. Muller is committed to building a premier transportation planning group, and this position will serve as a foundation for that growth. The ideal candidate is a hands-on planner who can support planning activities for existing projects while also helping market new planning services to Muller’s existing client base.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide outstanding internal and external client service.
• Provide hands-on project support in the areas of planning studies, report preparation, project facilitation, and public and stakeholder engagement.
• Collaborate with senior management to market transportation planning services, identify and strategize business development opportunities, and assist with proposal preparation and interviews.
• Apply planning experience and knowledge of CDOT and local agency planning needs to provide high-quality client service.
• Perform tasks for a wide variety of policy and planning projects, including research, documentation, and coordination with multidisciplinary team members from concept development through project completion.
• Demonstrate initiative with an emphasis on project coordination and effective communication.
• Serve as a key leader within Muller’s growing transportation service sectors by driving open communication regarding production needs and collaborating with company leaders on workload planning, project delivery, and scheduling.
• Mentor and train junior staff.
• Serve as planning task lead on transportation planning and multidisciplinary projects.
• Deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.
• Conduct quality reviews of project deliverables and proposal documents.
• Assist in hiring and developing additional planning staff as sufficient project backlog is established.

Education and/or Experience Requirements

• 10 years of experience in transportation planning.
• Demonstrated transportation planning experience with an emphasis on road safety audits, Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) plans, and other safety-focused planning efforts.
• Project leadership and project management experience.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning, civil engineering, transportation, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of the Colorado transportation professional services market.
• Proven ability to apply a range of analytical and planning techniques to meet varying client and project needs across a diverse portfolio of transportation projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated professional with strong leadership, organizational, and project coordination skills.
• Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, agencies, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.

Required License or Certification

• Professional registration or certification in the applicant’s field of practice, such as Professional Engineer (P.E.) or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).Road Safety Professional (RSP), Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE), or Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) certification is preferred.
• Candidates without an RSP certification will be required to obtain the certification within one year of employment.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $125,000 – $170,000 per year and is dependent on the individual’s education, experience, qualifications, and professional credentials.
