Position Summary
The Specimen Processing Technician I provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires strong data entry skills and the ability to perform a variety of specimen-handling tasks with accuracy, confidence, and efficiency. The position is critical to ensuring quality and customer satisfaction in a high-productivity, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities

Perform specimen processing functions, including but not limited to:

A-station tasks
-
Presort
-
Pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory

Imaging/microfilming
-
Centrifugation
-
Aliquoting
-

Enter data accurately (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour).

Maintain compliance with frequently changing test ordering regulations.

Learn and understand specimen types related to ordered tests.

Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to productivity/quality standards.

Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.

Maintain a clean, organized work area.

Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to daily changes and customer demands.

Follow safety protocols in a biohazard environment.

Support departmental needs including night shift, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required.

Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Knowledge & Skills

Basic computer knowledge.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience

Preferred experience includes:

Laboratory or hospital laboratory environment

Medical background or familiarity with clinical medical terminology
