Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Oncology
Location: Alamogordo, NM 88310
Duration: 3 to 4 Months contract (with possibility of extension)
Shift:
- Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide patient care and assistance to provider(s).
- Demonstrates proficiency and independence in the care of patients and their families/significant others by applying and documenting the nursing process; assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Consults with staff, physicians and management on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met.
- Continues to learn new skills and maintains clinical competency within the department to provide direct and safe patient care.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current American Heart – Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) card.
- Obtain Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) per regulations of OCN board.
- Licensure: Current New Mexico State Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
- Experience working in a Physician office preferred.
- Chemo certification in an infusion practice.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong written and verbal skills; able to communicate effectively in English.
- Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
Job Specific Duties:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other related criteria appropriate population in his/her assigned area.
- Maintains required core competencies.
- Complies with set Policies and Procedures (i.e. name tag, dress code, parking, smoking, etc.).
- Experience in a medical office setting.
- Must display respect, compassion, courteous and professional behavior at all times in contact with patients, visitors, employees, and medical staff.
- Assist Doctor with patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge in a medical office by proper use of equipment and patient treatment(s) specific to specialty or office practice.
- Anticipate doctor’s needs for each patient based upon patient treatment plan/guidelines.
- Verifies that patient results, x-rays, labs and procedure reports are in patient charts prior to seeing doctor.
- Gather patient’s vitals and reason for visit and document in patient medical record.
- Maintains accuracy in phone triage, message sharing and other means of communication by returning patient phone calls within 24 hrs and prescription refill requests within 72 hrs. per office standards.
- Complete lab requisition forms and assure that specimens are sent to correct labs per patient insurance contract.
Additional Job Specific Duties:
- Maintains exam room and procedure room supplies and instruments. Rooms and work area must be kept clean, organized and appropriately stocked.
- Perform minor procedures as directed by Physician: included but not limited to: injections, suture, and staple removal. Demonstrated by maintaining competencies in skill sets.
- Adheres to established medication management protocols to meet patient safety guidelines (secured narcotics, medication samples, waste, expired medications, including accessing and maintaining ports and central lines, phlebotomy).
- If applicable: provides ordered infusion treatments in a safe and appropriate timeframe while monitoring the patient condition and any changes. Reports outcomes to appropriate provider in a timely manner and documents findings.
- Maintains skill sets to float to other Physician Practices on an “as-needed” basis.
- Supports the nursing philosophy of caring by acting as a patient advocate; including patient’s family in care; setting aside personal values to provide patient care by respecting patient’s cultural and religious beliefs.
