Senior Design Engineer

MRC is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead technical execution, systems engineering, and design development for Navy Undersea Warfare (USW) Weapons, Vehicles, and Defensive Systems. In this technical role, you will bridge the gap between initial system concepts and fleet deployment, ensuring advanced heavyweight torpedo and undersea technologies meet strict military standards.

• Systems & Component Design: Develop system specifications, engineering documentation, and robust architectures for complex undersea weapon and vehicle systems.
• Technical Oversight: Guide the technical approach for system modifications, tracking milestones, and resolving hardware availability and fleet readiness engineering issues.
• Lifecycle & Compliance: Apply System Engineering Development policies (DoD 5000) to optimize designs for reliability, maintainability, and Total Ownership Cost (TOC) reduction.
• Mentorship & Collaboration: Lead small project teams, mentor junior design personnel, and collaborate with Technical Warrant Holders, systems engineers, and defense contractors.

• Experience: 20 years of progressive engineering experience, specifically focused on mechanical, electrical, or systems design within naval warfare or undersea programs.
• Technical Mastery: Mastered understanding of system engineering lifecycle frameworks, DoD 5000 compliance, and creating detailed project design plans.
• Problem Solving: Proven ability to diagnose weapon/system failures, conduct engineering trade studies, and integrate advanced technologies into existing hardware.
• Collaboration: Strong experience coordinating cross-functional teams, managing technical milestones, and defending engineering positions to project managers and Navy customers.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a highly related technical discipline.
