Construction Inspector (Quality Assurance/Quality Control, “QA/QC”)
This position will provide on-site inspection and construction management support for ongoing interior and/or exterior projects in the major trade disciplines: Architectural, Structural, Civil, and MEP. Projects include HVAC upgrades, fire alarm upgrades, roof replacements, bathroom renovations, cafeteria upgrades, small interior renovations, etc. Work will primarily be in an office environment; however, work will also be on a variety of construction sites both interior and exterior.
The function of the job is to ensure the D/B contractor implements an effective QC program and uses the provisions daily to control the quality of the work. Review contract deliverables and submittals for conformance and perform daily inspections to verify all work is in strict compliance with the contract, and request correction of any deficiencies in the QC system. Develop a construction QA plan for each project including inspection, testing, and reporting procedures, as well as plans for monitoring corrective actions taken by D/B contractors. Prepare daily written QA reports recording all discussion with Contractor Quality Control (CQC) staff as well as deficiencies. QA reports should be completed and submitted within 48 hours. Participate in the pre-construction meetings for each construction work item requiring such by the QA plan. Monitor QC inspection and testing activities performed by the D/B contractor. Able to work nights and weekends as the project schedule dictates.
Output: Daily reports, submittal review comments, quality project that meets plans and specifications.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years construction management and/or trade supervision experience including evaluation and inspection of complex mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems.
Education: Four-year degree in construction management, engineering or related field or equivalent combination of technical training and/or experience.
Preferred Certifications: EIT, CMIT, or OSHA 30 Hour Certificate
Duties include:
- Review Construction Drawings
- Maintain a daily log of construction activities, personnel and equipment on site, and material deliveries
- Participate in weekly progress meetings
- Coordinate with federal points of contacts as necessary
- Review material deliveries to validate they correspond to approved submittals
- Lead Work Task Preparatory Meetings to validate materials on-site correspond to submittals, and installers understand installation requirements as outlined within the specifications
- Conduct Quality Assurance Inspections
- Provide support for development of government cost estimates
- Provide escort of contractors when required for building access
- Set up and maintain job files
- Conduct reviews of monthly contractor payment applications
- Conduct Department of Labor wage interviews to ensure adherence to Davis Bacon Wage act
- Provide support for response to Requests for Information
- Review cost proposals and change orders from contractor
- Perform substantial completion inspection
- Provide technical review support
- Maintain logs of all construction documents
