This personis responsible foroverseeingall aspects of member fitness programming,eventsand staff with a focus on member experience. Responsible for department revenue goals, memberintake and integration,service and retention, program variety/participation, and department expense management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  1. Oversee all aspects of operations, strategy, planning and staffing for fitness and personal trainingdepartments.
  1. Develop and implement department operating procedures, with quality measures and controls.
  1. Develop and implement new member integrationprocess, includingintake, assessment, testing,orientationand tune-ups.
  1. Develop effective member programs,workshopsand events.
  1. Hold monthly department meetings with minutes and clear action points.
  1. Recruit, hire, train, develop,and evaluate all fitness andpersonal trainingstaff.
  1. Coordinate and manage andparticipatein the M.O.D. program.
  1. Develop monthly plan for achievingall benchmarks.
  1. Develop monthly plan for achievingrevenue goals with accountabilityfor all department members.
  1. Consistentlymaintainexpense control measures for the department, with careful attention to scheduling,payroll, and personal training commissions.
  1. Submit weekly payrollin a timely manner.
  1. Assemble and authorize payroll documents with back up for fitness.
  1. Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports to tracktrendingand needs.
  1. Keep all equipment clean and in good operating order.
  1. Establishstaffminimumcriteria, and performance standards and expectations.
  1. Institute department inventory controls and expense management system.
  1. Provide leadership, support, motivation, and correction for fitness,aquatics, sports and recreation,program, and personal trainingstaffs, with cross training for alldepartmentsas necessary.
  1. Perform daily department walk through with relevant action points.
  1. Develop member usage and retention action plans. Participateon retentioncommittee.
  1. Manage tracking of new member integrationand beaccountable to the service and use of theCenterby members.
  1. Conductformal performance reviews withstaff.
  1. Enforce departmental policies through effectiveCentercommunicationssystem.
  1. Communicateproactively on all mattersrelativetoCenteroperations,staffand members.
  1. Resolve staff and/or member issues using effective customer service and leadership skills.
  1. Maintain a professional attire and demeanor at all times.
  1. Stay current on industry trends.
  1. Participate in Centerand community events as needed

COMPETENCIES

Knowledge

  • Have experience and working knowledge of protocols and programs for working with special populations including persons that are overweight or who have diabetes.
  • Exhibit experience in working with various intake and assessment protocols.
  • Possess the ability to be flexible in working with the research teams, open tonew ideasand methodologies
  • Demonstrateknowledge of exercise physiology and fitness programming.
  • Maintain CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all standard operating procedures and policies that pertain to the center.
  • Exhibit an understanding of budgets and department financial reports and processes.
  • Keeps current with industry trends/literature and communicates them to staff.
  • Keeps current withcenter relatedprograms,policiesand procedures.
  • Demonstrateabilityto articulate variances in revenues/production/expenses versus budget.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degreerequiredinExercise Science,PhysicalEducationor related field.
  • Experience working with research protocolsrequired.
  • Current certification from a nationally recognized agency, including ACSM, AFAA, NASM, ACE, NSPA, NSCA preferred.
  • Current CPR,AEDandFirst Aid training.
  • Experience working with weight management and diabetes programs and clients
  • Minimum fiveyears' experience overseeing fitness/personal training/programs in afitness centersettingrequired, showing positiveoutcomes and impact.
  • Strong problem solving and customer service background.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requireslong periodsof standing or sitting.
  • Moderate use of computer terminal screen, right orleft handuse, typing.
  • Grasping and gripping movements
  • Ability to liftand/or carry50 lbs. Somelifting may requireadditionalassistance from another staffperson.Employeeisexpected to use discretionaryjudgmentand ask forassistancefrom another employee if an item is perceived to be too heavy to lift withoutassistance.
  • Use of personal safety equipmentrequired.
  • Frequent use of chemicals, includingpool chemicals,cleaningand laundry supplies.
  • Continuous exposure tomoderate to loudnoise.
  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling, and bending.
  • Must be able todemonstrateverbally or physically,
  • Intermediate writing skills
