Litigation Specialist

This position will manage litigated claims to expedite settlements and control litigation costs by evaluating exposure, analyzing anticipated defense costs, and establishing a defense plan for outside counsel.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Manage litigated claims to expedite settlements and control litigation costs by evaluating exposure, analyzing anticipated defense costs, and establishing a defense plan for outside counsel
• Maintain adequate reserves  
• Participate in round table discussions prior to ADR or trial to evaluate risk and establish settlement parameters 
• Advise Claims staff on investigation, liability, damages, and litigation-specific issues 
• Review litigation files for compliance with internal standards
• Perform other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

ESSENTIAL:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Three or more years of property and/or casualty adjusting experience, including large losses and claims with coverage issues
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex documents 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving and negotiating skills
• Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to organize and prioritize effectively
• Ability to work well with others 

PREFERRED:

• Five or more years of property and/or casualty adjusting experience
• Prior experience handling litigated property or casualty files
• Knowledge of policy language and insurance coverage issues
• A general knowledge of insurance law and specific understanding of the operations and requirements of insured clients, customers, and the company
