We are seeking a seeking a passionate and student-focused Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to join our exceptional student services team. The DHH teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments across multiple grade levels, fostering academic, social, and communication growth in alignment with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Instructional Planning & Delivery
- Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines for multiple grade levels and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Implement research-based teaching strategies that engage all students, acknowledging a range of abilities and cultural backgrounds.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and meaningful feedback.
- Curriculum Implementation
- Implements current district science and health curriculum that is grade-level appropriate, with necessary modifications and accommodations per IEP requirements.
- Plans and guides the learning process toward mastery of the science and health curriculum, establishing clear learning targets and success criteria for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Implements program curriculum in direct support of student IEP goals.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate regularly with colleagues, students, and parents to support student growth and ensure effective communication between school and home.
- Works closely with the Office of K–12 Science & Planetarium, Student Wellness, and Specialized Student Services departments for curriculum implementation and specialized support.
- Partners with the building principal, special education administrator, and/or content coordinators to reflect on teaching strengths and identify professional growth opportunities.
- Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Utilizes formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Communicates student performance and progress effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Sets and maintains high expectations for student achievement and behavior, motivating students to collaborate and reach their highest potential.
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field.
- Knowledge of current instructional best practices, including accommodations for students with hearing impairments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with students across multiple grade levels preferred.
