We are currently seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to provide school-based occupational therapy services to students in a supportive educational environment. This is an excellent opportunity to help students develop the skills needed for academic success, independence, and participation in school activities while working alongside a collaborative special education team.

Job Summary

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to support students with a variety of physical, developmental, sensory, and functional needs. The COTA will assist in implementing individualized treatment plans, documenting student progress, and collaborating with educators, families, and related service providers to support student achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Provide direct therapy services to students individually and in small groups.
  • Assist students in developing fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing, self-help, and functional skills necessary for school participation.
  • Support students with adaptive equipment and assistive technology as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions as requested by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Follow district policies, state regulations, and professional standards regarding occupational therapy services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and school district requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Current or eligible for New Mexico Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist in accordance with New Mexico state regulations.
  • Previous pediatric, school-based, or special education experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying ability levels.
