Mission
The Tutor’s purpose is to empower students at Career Care Institute by providing subject-matter expertise, individualized instruction, and academic support aligned with the institution’s vocational medical programs. Tutors facilitate student learning, monitor progress, and contribute to curriculum enhancement and quality assurance efforts. Tutors should apply research-informed, motivational, and adaptive instructional strategies to support diverse learners.
Education/Experience:
(A) Hold a current California active license as a Certified Medical Assistant, Limited Permit X-ray Technician, Vocational Nurse, or Registered Nurse
(B) Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant, Medical Permit X-ray Technician, Vocational Nurse, or Registered Nurse
(C) A minimum of an Associate Degree is required; a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
Job Summary
The Tutor provides academic support to students and leads those enrolled in the Vocational Nursing (VN), Limited Permit X-Ray Technician (LPXT), Dental Assisting (DA), and Medical Assisting (MA) programs. This role is responsible for helping students become independent learners, improve their academic performance, and successfully complete their coursework. The Tutor works closely with faculty, staff, and administration to ensure students receive the guidance and resources needed to achieve their academic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to the general responsibility, the is responsible for the following duties:
- Provide individual and/or group tutoring sessions in a variety of subjects.
- Support students/leads in understanding course content and strengthening academic skills.
- Assist students/leads with preparation for quizzes, exams, and clinical competencies, including practice exams.
- Participate in classroom instruction and provide academic support during lectures as needed.
- Set learning goals in collaboration with students and monitor progress.
- Maintain detailed records of tutoring sessions, student/lead progress, and appointments.
- Provide weekly audit and progress reports.
- Monitor and document attendance, tardies, grades, and conduct violations via the Student Advisement Form.
- Prepare for tutoring sessions in advance and arrive on time (at least five minutes early).
- Cooperate with the Campus Director, Assistant Campus Director, Receptionist, Admissions, Student Services, Career Services, and Instructors.
- Monitor classroom activities and ensure student/lead and facility safety compliance.
- Maintain supervision of the classroom at all times; do not leave unattended for non-instructional purposes.
- Uphold and enforce all school policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate behavior with students and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality with staff and student/lead issues and discussions.
- Discourage disruptive behavior and maintain a focused learning environment.
- Refrain from using mobile phones, eating, or drinking (except water) in instructional settings.
- Address any concerns professionally and directly with the Campus Director.
- Clock in and out accordingly.
- Encourage and assist students experiencing difficulty progressing in their course satisfactorily.
- Participate in academic meetings, training, and professional development
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current Federal, State, and Local requirements for the field, in which they teach, as well as Career Care Institute policies and rules, syllabi and lesson plans, and the current school catalog.
- Adhere to syllabus as designed or prescribed by Career Care Institute.
- Familiarize yourself thoroughly with school policy via the CCI catalog/handbook.

Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrate subject-matter proficiency in the courses the tutor will teach
- Experience working with students in academic settings (this can include volunteer, peer tutoring, teaching assistant roles, etc.)
- Familiarity with accreditation / regulatory standards relevant to healthcare / vocational education
- Experience using educational technologies, learning management systems, or online platforms
- Ability to assess student progress and adapt instruction accordingly
- Expertise in subjects related to the VN, LPXT, DA, and MA programs
- Ability to motivate and support diverse learners
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and computer skills required
- Ability to work on a team and work independently is required
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and time management
