Registered Respiratory Therapist

This is a rewarding position where the Respiratory Therapist will educate nurses on the care of our higher skilled clients. The COFK respiratory therapy curriculum with training on relevant equipment utilized in the home care setting provides the safest, quality care in our industry.  Training is provided by a respiratory therapist virtually and in several high-tech skill labs throughout the organization. The respiratory therapist will instruct nurses on the use of current ventilators, equipment, and all current modalities of respiratory therapy applied in the homecare setting. The RT will occasionally evaluate supplies in the home of the client to confirm that all necessary supplies are present for the safety of our high-tech cases. The role requires fluidity, travel, and the ability to work independently.  
  
Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Provides respiratory therapy services by educating nurses, and educating the home care community being serviced. 
• Prepares nursing personnel by providing training classes, mentoring, and clinical evaluations in the home. 
• Observes the participant’s performance, and coordinates nursing orientation to respiratory care 
• The respiratory therapist will educate nurses and isolate appropriateness for nurses on high tech cases. 
• Provide client specific training on new cases with equipment that is unfamiliar to nursing staff 
• Provide ventilator clinics to health care providers to maintain current education on state-of-the-art equipment utilized in the home care setting 
• Assist clinical staff with evaluation of our high-tech patients homes and collaborate to ensure treatment plan is appropriate for patient. 
• Assist clinical staff with reinforcing education of patient diagnosis and treatments to family members and caregivers.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications 
• Documents client care services by charting inpatient and clinical records 
• Participates in the discharge process by attending discharge planning meetings, home preparation, attendance at discharge, and follow-up visits when available 
• Performs annual respiratory competencies for clinical staff 
• On-call for nursing and client support

Education and Experience: 

• RRT associate degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred 
• Must have two years of respiratory therapist experience 
• DME and pediatric experience, preferred

 
Special Requirements: 

• Valid state Respiratory Therapist license is required in the state of residency and willingness to obtain Respiratory Therapist licensure in additional states in which the organization delivers educational services is required.
• Must have excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills 

  
Physical Requirements: 

• Transport equipment includes small ventilators and miscellaneous respiratory teaching supplies. 
• Ability to regularly sit, stand, bend, walk, reach, and lift with hands and arms. 

 
Work Environment: Lab, Office, Client Homes

Travel: 

• Travel is common and availability must be fluid 
• Some out-of-the-area travel is expected.
