Mammography Technologist

Location: White Plains, New York
Pay: $48.91–$73.36 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
Hours: 75 hours per pay period
Employment Type: Permanent, Direct-Hire Position

Position Summary

An outpatient imaging department in White Plains, New York, is seeking a Mammography Technologist to perform high-quality breast imaging examinations while providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

The technologist will prepare and position patients, evaluate images for technical quality, assist physicians during procedures, maintain equipment and quality-assurance standards, and help patients feel informed and comfortable throughout their examinations.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare and position patients correctly for mammography examinations according to established protocols.
Explain procedures to patients and family members and respond to questions or concerns.
Produce high-quality diagnostic images and review completed examinations for accuracy, quality, and completeness.
Complete required patient questionnaires and image documentation.
Assist physicians and radiologists during procedures as needed.
Present images to the radiologist and communicate urgent or preliminary findings to the attending physician when directed.
Document all clinical communications appropriately.
Perform equipment quality-assurance testing and calibrations.
Maintain appropriate supplies and place orders when needed.
Operate mammography, imaging, computer, and related equipment safely.
Process images and prepare imaging CDs when requested.
Document patient and examination information in the electronic medical record, radiology information system, and PACS.
Review previous imaging studies and reports when needed.
Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked examination areas.
Report malfunctioning equipment to biomedical engineering or department leadership.
Recognize and respond appropriately to changing patient conditions and emergency situations.
Participate in staff meetings, training, continuing education, and departmental in-services.
Serve as an instructor or preceptor when assigned.
Provide professional and respectful care to patients across different age groups and clinical needs.
Assist with on-call, holiday, overtime, or alternate-shift coverage when required by department operations.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited radiography certificate, allied health, or hospital-based imaging program.
Active New York State Department of Health Radiologic Technologist license upon hire.
Current ARRT certification in Mammography — ARRT(M) — upon hire.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.
Ability to work Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Ability to respond appropriately to rapidly changing patient and departmental needs.
Strong attention to detail and ability to remain focused during extended procedures.
Ability to operate computers, imaging equipment, and other clinical devices.
Ability to maintain required continuing education and mammography-specific credentials.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
One to three years of mammography or radiologic imaging experience.
Previous outpatient or hospital-based breast imaging experience.
Experience assisting with physician-led breast imaging procedures.
Experience using radiology information systems and PACS.
Previous experience serving as a clinical instructor or preceptor.
Certification and Training Requirements

Candidates who do not already meet the advanced mammography requirements must complete the required training and certification process within one year of hire. This includes:

Forty hours of mammography training covering anatomy, physiology, quality assurance, and quality control.
Completion of 25 supervised mammography examinations under an MQSA-qualified professional.
Passing the advanced ARRT Mammography examination within one year of hire.
Maintaining 15 Category 1 mammography continuing education credits during each 36-month period.
Maintaining all continuing education required by applicable governing bodies.

During orientation, the selected technologist must also complete the American College of Radiology’s Image Gently and Image Wisely radiation-dose pledges before the end of the probationary period.
