About the Role Care Career is hiring an experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to provide mental health care inside a California state prison in Stockton.
This is a correctional setting, and it’s different from community or private practice work. The environment is structured, routines are clearly defined, and clinicians work with incarcerated adults who often have complex mental health needs. Many clinicians appreciate the predictability, boundaries, and focus on clinical work that comes with correctional settings. This role is a good fit for someone who values structure, consistency, and meaningful work in a public service environment.
What Your Day Will Look Like
Providing individual and group therapy, crisis support, and suicide risk assessments Completing mental health evaluations, treatment plans, and clinical documentation Working alongside a multidisciplinary team during treatment meetings Meeting with patients face to face, which may include cell-front interactions Following established institutional procedures around safety, movement, and care delivery Contract & Work Environment
6-month contract through Care Career Extensions may be available based on facility needs Shifts are scheduled ahead of time so you know what to expect Work takes place in a secure correctional facility with clear rules and protocols Clinicians are expected to stay aware of their surroundings and follow all safety procedures Pay & Support
