About the Role
The Therapy Supervisor at LifeSpan Therapy plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of high-quality therapeutic care to patients. This position involves managing daily operations, ensuring compliance with clinical standards, and fostering a collaborative team environment. The Therapy Supervisor will oversee patient care activities, monitor treatment progress, and provide guidance to therapy staff to optimize patient outcomes. They will also contribute to staff training and development, ensuring that all team members adhere to best practices in infection control and wound care. Ultimately, this role is essential in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of therapy services within the organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Assume authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of therapy services in the facility, providing clinical oversight to therapy staff.
- Communicate and interpret policies and procedures to therapy staff and monitor staff practices and implementation.
- Collaborate with physicians, consultants, community agencies, and institutions to support continuity of care, improve the quality of services and resolve identified problems.
- Develop, maintain, and implement therapy care that conforms to current standards of practice, the company's mission, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of personnel and ensure sufficient staff are hired.
- Monitor productivity activity weekly for OT, PT, and ST utilizing the Casamba Therapy Productivity Report.
- Monitor provision of therapy services to ensure services are based on resident clinical need and promote the best functional outcome
- Manage assessment reference dates with Medicare guidelines and relate this information to facility MDS Coordinator and therapists.
- Assist in denials appeal process including ADRs.
- Orient all new personnel and provide in-service training required or indicated to equip therapy staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, quality care and respect for resident rights.
- Conduct staff performance reviews on a timely basis.
- Monitor staff for compliance with OSHA mandates and facility policies on workplace safety. Promote workplace safety and safe work practices.
- Assure staff are trained in fire and disaster and other emergency procedures and evaluate performance during drills.
- Communicate directly with residents, families, medical staff, nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, and Department Heads to coordinate care and services, promote participation in infection care plans, and maintain a high quality of care and life for residents.
- Help monitor the department's compliance with Minimum Data Set (MDS) procedures and care plans.
- Help coordinate Rehabilitation Services with the Restorative Care services, maintaining good rapport with the Director of Nursing, Restorative Care nurse, and all affected nursing personnel.
- Attend and actively participate in daily/weekly rehabilitation meetings and other mandatory facility meetings.
- Participate in the fiscal planning and budget associated with department management.
- May be required to perform home Health visits.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Indiana PT, OT, or SLP license and be a graduate of an accredited school.
- At least 1 year of patient care experience in a retirement community or long-term care facility is required.
- Basic computer literacy to manage patient records and documentation.
- Knowledge of infection control standards and procedures.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a therapy or healthcare setting.
- Advanced training or certification in wound care or infection control.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Continuing education in therapy techniques or healthcare management.
- Ability to contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
