Cardiovascular Medicine (CVM) is excited to offer an exceptional training opportunity for a motivated professional to begin or advance a career in cardiac imaging through hands-on training and mentorship as an Echo Assistant. This role provides valuable clinical experience in echocardiography and vascular imaging while working alongside experienced sonographers and physicians in a collaborative cardiovascular practice. This structured program ensures that trainees develop the comprehensive skills necessary to perform echocardiography independently, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, quality imaging, and accurate interpretation.
Key Details
Twelve months of onsite/hands on training including online courses, travel to Gulf Coast Ultrasound Institute and completion of final evaluation and certification to become a certified Sonographer. All training program expenses will be covered by CVM.
Key Responsibilities
Train in performing echocardiograms (transthoracic, stress, and Doppler studies)
Learn to properly operate ultrasound equipment, optimize image quality, and apply protocols for accurate diagnostic imaging.
Assist in obtaining patient medical histories and documenting relevant clinical information.
Follow laboratory and accreditation standards (e.g., IAC guidelines) to ensure quality assurance in imaging procedures.
Gain experience in analyzing and interpreting imaging data to support physician diagnoses.
Learn to communicate preliminary findings to the supervising sonographer or physician.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of ultrasound equipment and exam rooms.
Participate in ongoing educational opportunities, including workshops, case reviews, and hands-on training.
Adhere to all safety, infection control, and patient privacy regulations (HIPAA compliance)
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree OR
Allied Health Applied Science degree in radiography, respiratory therapy, sonography, CT, MR, or other qualifying healthcare profession required.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required through the American Heart Association.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
Initiative and willingness to learn and expand clinical knowledge.
Proficiency with computers and medical technology.
