We are seeking a compassionate, highly qualified School Nurse to join our community beginning with the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will view school nursing not only as a profession, but as a ministry of presence, care, and advocacy, helping students thrive so they are healthy, safe, and fully prepared to learn. Position Summary School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that supports student health, safety, and readiness to learn. As an integral member of our student support team, the School Nurse promotes wellness, identifies and removes health-related barriers to learning, and partners with families, faculty, counselors, and administrators to foster the holistic development of every student. The School Nurse plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, compassionate, and inclusive environment where every student feels known, valued, and supported. Major Responsibilities Clinical Care & Health Management Provide direct nursing care by administering medications, providing first aid, managing acute illnesses and chronic health conditions, responding to medical emergencies, and implementing evidence-based nursing interventions. Assess student health concerns and coordinate care with families, healthcare providers, school personnel, and community agencies. Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs), Allergy Action Plans (AAPs), and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs). Manage the school's medication administration program in compliance with Massachusetts regulations and Board of Registration in Nursing guidelines. Provide training and oversight for delegated medication administration. Monitor communicable diseases, immunization compliance, exclusion/readmission protocols, and required health screenings. Foster an environment that promotes physical, emotional, and mental wellness for all students. Student Support & Formative Care Serve as a trusted adult who provides compassionate care, empathy, and reassurance to students during times of illness, injury, or emotional distress. Collaborate closely with counselors, campus ministry, administrators, and faculty to support the holistic development of students. Recognize the connection between health, learning, belonging, and student success, ensuring that health concerns do not become barriers to educational opportunity. Support the school's commitment to creating a community rooted in dignity, respect, compassion, and restorative practices.Health Records & Documentation Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in accordance with FERPA, HIPAA, Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations, and school policies. Document all health office visits, assessments, interventions, medications, and follow-up care. Maintain medication orders and required documentation. Prepare required health reports and maintain faculty health records when appropriate. Collaboration & Consultation Serve as an active member of Student Support Teams and other multidisciplinary teams, providing health expertise and recommendations. Partner with counselors, learning support staff, campus ministry, nutrition services, coaches, and faculty to ensure students receive coordinated care. Communicate effectively and compassionately with parents and guardians regarding student health needs. Support health education initiatives that promote healthy decision-making, personal responsibility, and respect for self and others. Work collaboratively with school leadership to manage the Health Office budget and supplies.Review and approve student participation on field trips based on medical needs. Facilitate faculty training in emergency response, including CPR awareness, Epinephrine administration, diabetes management, seizure response, and Stop the Bleed. Professional Practice Maintain current knowledge of adolescent health, public health, communicable disease prevention, emergency care, chronic illness management, mental health, and school nursing best practices. Maintain all required Massachusetts licensure, certifications, and continuing education. Demonstrate professionalism, sound clinical judgment, discretion, and ethical decision-making consistent with both nursing standards and the mission of Catholic education.Additional Responsibilities Support emergency preparedness planning and response. Assist other Health Offices when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School or designee.
