Overview:

JV Girls Basketball CoachCardinal Spellman High School

The JV Girls Basketball Coach is an integral part of the girls basketball program providing support for the Varsity Head Coach with focus on team success and individual skill and fundamental development. They will instill a high level of appreciation for the discipline related to the game of basketball while highlighting the importance of hard work, sportsmanship, and accountability. The ideal candidate will excel at building strong relationships with all stakeholders involved in the program and greater Cardinal Spellman community.

Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basketball rules and techniques and aptitude
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, students and parents; familiarity with MIAA rules,regulations, procedures, and policies
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certification, along with Youth Protection requirements per the Diocese of Boston
  • Participation in basketball at the high school or collegiate level preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians and schooladministration
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, leadership and supervisory skills
  • Performance Responsibilities:
  • Support the Varsity Head Coach with all matters related to the girls basketball program including, but not limited to, player personnel, off-season conditioning, scheduling, fundraising, care/maintenance of equipment and uniforms along with supervision of players during practice, games, travel and other team functions
  • Directly responsible for developing, evaluating, and producing a JV program, directing the team during competition, conducting team meetings and establishing consistent communication with the families of the program
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and sincere interest in coaching and working with student-athletes while keeping in focus the character development of the young women of the program
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of the student-athletes is a top priority in the organization and implementation of practice and game situations
  • Clearly communicate with individual players and the team about goals, performance and progress
  • Develop and maintain a highly competitive environment
  • Maintain an accurate roster and support the Athletic Department regarding the academic and athletic eligibility of student-athletes
  • Communicate and work with athletic trainer and parents involving student-athletes’ injuries
  • Monitor the safety conditions of the court or area in which assigned team is conductingworkouts, practices, or games
  • Maintain accurate statistics, records, and results of the season
  • Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breach of these standards by individual student-athletes
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, uniforms and supplies and updates it after every season
  • Inform student-athletes and families of all school-related policies and team rules
  • Ensure supervision for all games, practices and organized team activities

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director and Varsity Coach in regards to roles, duties and expectations.
  • Supervise practice area and locker room when athletes are present to ensure safe and proper conditions
  • Promote and monitor effective individual and team conduct at practice, during games and in our school and community in an effort to support the expected image and reputation of Cardinal Spellman High School.
  • Present a professional image and provide a positive role model in terms of personal habits,language and conduct

Compensation

This is a stipend-based position for the academic year, with compensation commensurate with experience and based on school budget and policies. Stipend range is $2500-$3000.
