The Charge Registered Medication Aide (R.M.A.) provides assisted living services to meet resident care needs under the Supervision of the Nursing Director and supervises direct care staff in accordance with the residents’ needs, state regulations, and Cardinal Senior Living policies and procedures. Provides medication administration in accordance with state policies and regulations.

To provide and assist residents with daily ADL’s (activities of daily living) as identified in resident’s Individual Service Plan under the supervision of Designated Charge Person, Nursing Director and Administration. Assists in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for the residents.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a Registered Medication Aide by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing and in good standing.
  • Licensed C.N.A. from the State of Virginia or Direct Care Aide who has completed the 40 hour Direct Care Aide Training Certification Program, that has met the requirements of the Department of Social Service.
  • Previous experience with the geriatric field is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, co- workers, community officials, state officials, and general public
  • Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly
  • Must meet all State Health Requirements
  • Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work
  • Must provide proof of authorization to work in the United States
  • Requires good attendance in order to provide quality care for our residents
  • Must be of good character
  • Be physically and mentally capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities
  • Be considerate and respectful of the rights, dignity, and sensitivities of aged and disabled persons
  • Be clean and well groomed
  • Meet all requirements for background checks

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Personal Care and Nursing

  • Medication Assistance /Supervisory Functions
  • Documents in shift report book any and all pertinent information on residents. (ex. illness, new orders, MD appts, therapy etc.)
  • Receives shift reports on residents upon arrival on duty from person in charge and gives shift reports on residents at end of shift to on coming shift charge person.
  • Interact with resident’s MD, pharmacist and medical personal as needed.
  • Supervise and assist with the storage ,distribution and discontinuation of resident’s oral medications
  • Assist Residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, (hair care, oral care, and nail care), toileting, changing of bed linens as needed, positioning, transfers, mobility, and incontinence care
  • Walking residents
  • Perform nail care on Residents except those who are diabetic and on Coumadin or anticoagulant therapy
  • Monitoring Residents
  • Feeding Residents
  • Keep proper records of care
  • Immediately report observations, incidents, and changes in Resident’s condition to Designated Charge Person
  • Vital signs monitoring
  • Housekeeping & Laundry (mopping, cleaning, bathrooms, rooms, laundry, etc.…)
  • Serving trays at meal times if needed
  • Accompanying resident to and from medical appointments as needed
  • Filling up water/ice pitchers every shift and as needed

SAFETY AND SANITATION:

  • Understand and follow safety and infection control policies and procedures
  • Respond immediately to chair and bed alarms, all other alarms, and wander guard alarms and promptly to call bells
  • Report incidents immediately and complete appropriate paperwork
  • Lift Residents with 2 people at all times per policy and procedures
  • Use gait belts as necessary
  • LAUNDRY FUNCTIONS
  • Collect laundry and distribute linens and garments as needed
  • Help to properly maintain all equipment, ensure work areas are clean and safe, and ensure policies covering infection control and health and safety are strictly followed
  • Launder Resident clothing and other items as directed

Resident Rights Functions:

  • Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding Resident rights
  • Attend all required in-service trainings

PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to perform the following body movements: Walking, bending, stooping, reaching, bending and flexing arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers
  • Lift and transfer up to 50 pounds short distances
  • Climb stairs and turn head and torso
  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time

Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination

OSHA CATEGORY CLASSIFICATION:

  • Follow Infection Control policies and Procedures
  • Follow all OSHA requirements
  • Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens
  • Report immediately to Designated Charge Person any employee accident and fill out required paperwork
  • Follow policy and procedure for spills

OTHER:

  • Promote and encourage Residents to participate in activities
  • Answer phone if needed- always answer politely and cheerfully .Make sure you include the facility name and your name
  • Meets customer service standards in a friendly, helpful, courteous manner with Resident satisfaction a priority

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
