Shipping and Receiving Associate

The Shipping and Receiving Laborer manages inbound and outbound shipments. This position is responsible for loading and unloading packages, verifying shipment contents and managing documentation associated with the shipping process. This position maintains physical and digital inventories and must be capable of working independently.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Prepare items for shipment. Duties include packing, sealing, labeling and shipping merchandise or material.
• Receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products.
• Examine contents and compare with work orders to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
• Record shipment data, such as weight, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
• Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.
• Examine blueprints and work orders to determine product specifications.
• Lift and position work pieces, manually or with assistance from various mechanical lifts.
• Observe & follow all safety policies and procedures in compliance with organizational rules, while seeking continuous improvement. Responsible for his/her safety as well as that of his/her colleagues.
• Exercises independent judgment as needed.

• Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Able to follow quality standards on a consistent basis.
• A strong work ethic and ability to work independently.

• Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Other Skills and Abilities – Ability to package products for safe shipment to customers; proper use of weighing/counting scales; safely operate a forklift.
