Role Description: The Direct Support Professional is a full-time, on-site role located in Valhalla, NY. In this role, you will provide person-centered support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, assisting with daily living activities such as personal care, meals, transportation, and community outings. You will help individuals build skills for greater independence, implement individualized service plans, and encourage social, recreational, and vocational participation. The position includes monitoring and documenting progress, supporting health and safety needs, and following all agency and regulatory guidelines. You will collaborate with supervisors, clinical teams, and families, participate in required trainings, and contribute to a respectful, inclusive environment that promotes choice and self-advocacy for each person supported.
Qualifications
- Background in Human Services or a related field, with a commitment to person-centered support and advocacy.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills and Communication abilities to build trusting relationships, provide clear information, and work effectively in a team.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Intellectual Disabilities, with the ability to follow and implement individualized service plans.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing Training, including agency, regulatory, behavioral, and safety trainings.
- High school diploma or GED required; relevant college coursework or degree in social services, psychology, or a related area is preferred.
- Ability to assist with personal care, lift or support individuals as needed, and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Reliable transportation to Valhalla, NY, and flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Driver's License for at least 2 years.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication; previous experience in residential or community-based disability services is a plus.
