Responsibilities
- Review and process patient accounts using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility for patients prior to service delivery
- Follow up on unpaid or delayed claims through medical collection efforts to maximize revenue recovery
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure correct documentation of diagnoses and procedures in medical records
- Prepare detailed billing statements and submit claims in compliance with insurance requirements and regulations
- Maintain thorough records of all billing activities, denials, appeals, and collections for audit purposes
- Stay updated on changes in medical terminology, coding standards, and insurance policies to ensure compliance and accuracy
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, medical coding, or a related healthcare administrative role
- Strong knowledge of DRG classifications, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, and ICD coding standards
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms used for documentation and billing processes
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology and medical records management
- Experience with medical collection procedures and insurance claim submission processes
- Ability to interpret complex insurance policies and explain billing details clearly to patients
- Prior experience in a medical office setting is preferred but not required
