Primary Work Location 

This position supports multiple Cardea Health Interim Housing Programs and requires regular travel between assigned locations. 

Cardea's interim housing programs provide temporary housing, stabilization services, clinical support, care coordination, case management, and connections to permanent housing opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness. 

Employees in these roles should expect frequent collaboration with residents, healthcare providers, social service agencies, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams. 

 

Job Summary 

The Senior Maintenance Technician serves as the department's lead field technician and provides advanced maintenance expertise across Cardea Health facilities. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, this position performs complex repairs, leads maintenance projects, assists with departmental coordination, and helps ensure consistent quality, safety, and operational standards across sites. 

The Senior Maintenance Technician serves as a technical resource and mentor for Maintenance Technicians and Maintenance Associates, providing coaching, guidance, and hands-on training while helping to maintain safe, functional, and welcoming environments for residents, staff, and visitors. 

Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Perform advanced maintenance and repair work involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, painting, and other building systems within scope of training and qualifications. 

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex facility, equipment, and building system issues. 

  • Lead complex maintenance projects, renovations, and repair assignments from planning through completion. 

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, training, and mentorship to Maintenance Associates and Facilities Technicians. 

  • Assist with assigning, prioritizing, and coordinating maintenance work orders and daily tasks. 

  • Review completed work to ensure quality standards, code compliance, and safe work practices. 

  • Coordinate and monitor outside contractors, vendors, and service providers performing work on Cardea Health properties. 

  • Assist the Facilities Manager with preventative maintenance planning and execution. 

  • Complete, review, and maintain accurate work order documentation within the MaintainX maintenance management system. 

  • Support inventory management of tools, equipment, supplies, and replacement parts. 

  • Conduct inspections of buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, and systems to identify maintenance needs. 

  • Respond to urgent and emergency maintenance situations, including occasional after-hours needs. 

  • Promote and model safe work practices and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). 

  • Assist with department process improvements, workflow development, and operational efficiency initiatives. 

  • Travel between Cardea Health locations to support maintenance operations and special projects. 

  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to minimize operational disruptions and maintain resident safety. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Minimum seven (7) years of facilities, building, property, healthcare, hospitality, commercial, or related maintenance experience. 

  • Valid California Driver License with an acceptable driving record. 

  • Reliable personal vehicle available for travel between Cardea Health locations. 

  • Current automobile insurance. 

  • Advanced knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and repair techniques. 

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, and general facility issues. 

  • Experience providing leadership, mentorship, training, or work direction to maintenance staff. 

  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and diagnostic skills. 

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management abilities. 

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities across locations. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • OSHA safety certification. 

  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building maintenance certifications. 

  • Contractor's License. 

  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), including MaintainX. 

  • Experience working in supportive housing, healthcare, hospitality, shelter, or residential environments. 

  • Experience serving vulnerable or marginalized populations.

Physical Requirements 

This position requires significant mobility and regular presence within program environments. 

Essential physical activities may include: 

  • Frequent standing and walking throughout housing sites. 

  • Responding to program or participant needs in various environments. 

  • Navigating stairways, hallways, outdoor spaces, and community settings. 

  • Assisting with program operations, room preparation, supply movement, or emergency response activities. 

  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and crouching. 

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. 

 

Work Environment 

Cardea Health program locations operate within supportive housing, interim housing, medical respite, and community-based environments serving individuals experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations.
