Marketing and Communications Manager
Job Status: Full Time, Salaried
Reports to: Director of Operations
Mission: The Carbondale Clay Center exists to enrich lives through the ceramic arts.
Vision: Our vision is to serve the community by offering strong, diversified, high-quality ceramic art educational programs and providing support for ceramic artists/potters through teaching, exhibiting, and educational opportunities.
Position Overview: It is expected that the Marketing and Communcations Manager(MCM) will be responsible for the following tasks, which will be performed under the supervision of and with thorough communication and complete cooperation with the Director of Operations and other CCC staff:
The MCM position requires strategic thinking and planning about what is messaged, and to whom. This is combined with a close attention to detail and timely execution on many simultaneous marketing-related projects with tight deadlines.
Core Responsibilities: oversees the marketing, advertising, and promotion of all of CCC’s programs, events, exhibitions, classes, and workshops across all appropriate media platforms. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Graphic Design Production and Output
- Design all marketing materials for CCC’s programming, memberships, exhibitions, local media and annual national conference using the Adobe Suite of products
- Create digital and print versions for all promotional materials as needed
- Designs, prints and distributes promotional materials for appropriate ceramic and art conferences and in CCC workshops, gallery shows or other events
2. Social Media Management
- Develop relevant content via a shared calendar and manages social media platforms
- Assesses current trends to increase engagement across all platforms, with a focus on Instagram
- Update socials (at least once per week, targeting 2-3 posts per week) to reflect timelines for gallery shows, events, artist spotlights, special events, classes, etc.
3. Email and Website Management
- Manage website content to reflect CCC programming and events
- Design and distribute a variety of email blasts promoting programming and events at least monthly, often more frequently
- Manage email lists and segment as appropriate
4. Uphold Branding Standards
- Ensure current CCC brand/design aesthetics are represented consistently and cohesively across all print and digital media platforms.
5. Strategic Leadership
- Maintains a proactive and collaborative marketing calendar for long-term messaging on topics and content
- Schedules and works with contract photographers to obtain and curate current images and videos needed for the website and gallery store.
- Organizes and manages the gallery’s photo library and archives.
- Updates information on all appropriate community calendars
Other Duties: Carbondale Clay Center (CCC) is not a traditional work environment. As an established and growing arts organization, we must be fluid and responsive to the changing landscape of those we serve. While the above job description is the backbone of the Marketing & Communications Manager role within the organization, all CCC staff regularly have responsibilities and tasks on other projects as needed, given time, skill sets, and expertise. The Marketing & Communications Manager must be willing to establish his or her role in furtherance of CCC’s mission and vision.
- All personnel are required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, including but not limited to answering the office phone, greeting and engaging customers, Retail/ Gallery/ Studio sales, general office organization help and support, etc.
- This role requires a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours as needed, and particularly intense time demands during various seasonal initiatives, depending upon exhibition and event schedules.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in email marketing and list management, as well as blog content creation as needed.
- Proficiency with graphic design software (Adobe suite of products).
- Proficiency with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X).
- Strong computer skills and experience with Google products, Microsoft products, Neon, Canva, etc.
- Proven time-management skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to multitask, coordinate current and long-range projects, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work both in a team setting and independently. Must be a strong and proactive communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, working with all departments across the organization, as well as high-net-worth art collectors, artists, and community members.
- Bachelor of Arts, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or equivalent college degree, or equivalent experience.
- Physical Requirements: typical examples of physical tasks include reaching, standing, sitting, typing, talking, crouching, kneeling, seeing, and hearing—occasional lifting and carrying of camera equipment up to 25lbs.
