Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Technician

Includes installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating industrial instruments, control systems, and related electronic components to ensure accurate process monitoring and control. Key duties involve reading technical diagrams, testing equipment, analyzing performance, resolving design issues, maintaining system documentation, and adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Mount, wire, and program instrumentation and control equipment according to specifications, diagrams and wiring schematics.
• Perform preventative maintenance, modifications, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment to ensure proper functioning
• Routinely calibrate instruments, control devices, and systems to verify their accuracy and ensure reliability
• Diagnose malfunctions in electronic and control systems using diagnostic tools and technical manuals, then resolve issues to prevent system downtime
• Conduct system tests and evaluate equipment performance under various simulated conditions 
• Record and analyze test data, maintain service records, update drawings, and use Computerized Maintenance Management  Systems (CMMS) for tracking and reporting
• Ensure all work and equipment comply with industry regulations, safety standards (e.g., National Electric Code), and that required personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn

Operate computer terminals, portable programming units, and other electronic test equipment to monitor and control systems.

Key Skills and Qualifications

• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of electronic theory, instrumentation, control systems, and programming
• Reading & Interpretation: Ability to interpret installation specifications, diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
• Computer Proficiency: Experience using computers and specialized software for programming, data analysis, and record-keeping 
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex technical issues
• Physical Stamina: Ability to work in various environments and perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, and working in confined spaces  

Safety Awareness: Diligence in following safety procedures and wearing appropriate PPE.
