  • Job Summary:**
  • Responds to 911 emergency medical situations throughout the Carbon County Ambulance service area, as well as interfacility transports when called upon by the hospital
  • Help with second call as needed
  • Responsible for equipment, quality assurance with medical control, disaster preparedness, assistance in the field operations, and current information in applicable state rules and regulations
  • Key Tasks And Responsibilities:**
  • Responds to medical calls and evaluates emergency situations to determine most effective medical care; performs a variety of medical and rescue procedures including but not limited to:
  • Conducting medical and trauma assessments.
  • Establishing and maintaining adequate airways.
  • Controlling bleeding and splinting broken bones.
  • Administering medications.
  • Extricating patients.
  • Provide effective communication with the patients, medical control, dispatch, and other emergency service agencies.
  • Attends specialized classes and training to maintain and expand skills and certifications.
  • Provides training to the public and other emergency responders.
  • Perform other duties and functions as requested or required.
  • Take interfacility transports when called upon by the hospital.
  • Qualifications:**
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License required and have not received in the past two years more than two moving violations; no DUI, drugs, alcohol, or alcohol-related reckless citations, or drivers license revocation or suspensions.
  • Must be willing to undergo a thorough background screening and drug test.
  • Must possess a current EMT Certification (EMT-B, I, IA, P); additional certifications in related EMS field is a plus.
  • Desire a working knowledge in the State Bureau of EMS, EMT-B, I, IA, P standards and protocols.
  • Essential Skills & Attributes:**
  • Must be able to clearly speak, read, and write in the English language; ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish is desired.
  • Must have basic math skills; if you are certified above an EMT-B level, you must be able to accurately perform drug calculations necessary to determine drug dosages and IV drip rates.
  • Must be able to operate an emergency vehicle (ambulance).
  • Desire basic computer skills.
  • Physical, Mental, & Environmental Demands:**
  • Must be physically able to lift up to a minimum of 75 pounds, bend, stoop, twist, turn, and climb into and out of emergency vehicles at various accident or emergency environments.

  • Able to ear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare, inspect, and operate machinery.
  • Able to deal with very difficu t concepts and complex variables.
  • Must be willing to work odd hours, daytime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing to work in unfavorable work conditions including snow and rainstorms, excessive heat, cold and windy conditions.
  • Personal Characteristics:**
  • Must be highly motivated and a self-starter who seeks new and innovative methods of performing his or her duties, as well as technology and equipment to enhance emergency medical services.
  • Must have sound decision making ability must be able to follow directions and complete duties in a timely manner.
  • Must possess strong people skills, be cooperative, and exercise professional deportment in areas of public relations.
  • Must be a team player who will nurture positive community relations between a variety of government, medical, and business entities.
  • Must have a positive attitude, willing work flexible hours and to accept on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Carbon County Ambulance is a paramilitary organization meaning dress code is strictly enforced.

**All full-time, hourly employees will have minimum requirements, so to maintain their full-time employee status:**

  • Must work a minimum of 40 hours per week (two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts).
  • Help with transports that are on weekends, or a "second one out status".
  • Must not miss more than 2 Mega Code trainings per year.
