What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activated Carbon Scientist / Engineer position at Capybara Energy?
HTC and Waste-Derived Carbon Scientist
Capybara Energy is developing energy storage systems using carbon made from waste materials. We’re looking for a hands-on scientist to help develop and scale this work.
The essential experience for this role is personally performing hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) on waste or biomass feedstocks to produce hydrochar. We are not seeking other carbon technologies at this time.
What we’re looking for:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience producing hydrochar through HTC of waste or biomass feedstocks.
- Experience with carbon characterization methods such as BET, SEM, XRD, TGA, or FTIR.
- A practical, collaborative approach to research and problem-solving.
What you’ll do:
- Run and improve HTC processes using waste or biomass feedstocks.
- Characterize hydrochar and support its development for energy-storage applications.
- Help move promising processes from lab work toward larger-scale production.
- Work with our engineering and research team and document results clearly.
Experience activating hydrochar, working with electrochemical energy storage, or scaling processes is a plus.
What We Offer:
- Three weeks paid time off
- Sick pay
- Parental leave
- Ten paid holidays
- Health insurance
- Dental insurance
- 401K match
- Advanced Snacks
* U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status is required due to federal contract requirements.
