What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at Capstone Search Advisors?
The Manufacturing Financial Analyst is responsible for overseeing all financial activities at the plant level, ensuring accurate cost accounting, strong internal controls, and timely financial reporting. This role partners closely with plant leadership to drive operational performance, improve profitability, and support data-driven decision making. This individual is the sole person at the plant level responsible for all Accounting/Finance matters.
Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead all plant accounting activities, including month-end close, journal entries, accruals, and financial statements
- Prepare and analyze monthly operating results, including variance analysis vs. budget and forecast
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, and internal controls
Cost Accounting
- Maintain and manage standard costing systems for raw materials, labor, and overhead
- Analyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead, yield, PPV, scrap) and provide actionable insights
- Partner with operations to identify cost reduction and productivity improvement opportunities
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual plant budget and periodic forecast processes
- Support long-range planning and capital expenditure analysis (ROI, payback, IRR)
- Track and report on KPIs tied to plant performance
Inventory & Controls
- Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, and physical inventories
- Ensure accurate valuation of inventory and work-in-process
- Strengthen internal controls and safeguard plant assets
Business Partnership
- Act as a financial advisor to the Plant Manager and operations leadership
- Support continuous improvement, Lean, and operational excellence initiatives
- Provide financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic decisions
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop plant accounting staff (if applicable)
- Collaborate with corporate finance, supply chain, and operations teams
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA/CMA preferred)
- 3-10 years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing company
- Strong background in cost accounting and plant-level financial management
Skills & Competencies
- Deep understanding of standard costing and manufacturing financials
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, JD Edwards, etc.)
- Advanced Excel skills; Power BI or similar tools a plus
- Ability to influence operations leaders and drive accountability
