What are the responsibilities and job description for the RPG Developer position at Capstone IT?

We are seeking an experienced RPG Developer to support strategic systems in finance, HR, and inventory. 80% of this role will be to support and problem solve any issues that may arise within these systems. Additional projects may include researching existing applications, documenting business processes, and preparing for a transition to Java-based architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Heavy focus on RPG/I-Series development and support work
- Analyze and research legacy applications built on RPG within an iSeries (AS/400) environment
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand current system workflows and business processes
- Document application functionality, dependencies, and operational processes in detail
- Support discovery efforts for system transition to a Java-based platform
- Provide insights into data structures and flows within DB2 databases
- Assist with limited enhancements, troubleshooting, and support of existing systems as needed
- Partner with cross-functional teams: business analysts, architects, modernization teams
- Able to provide night/weekend support on a rotation with the team
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience with RPG (RPG III / IV / ILE) development
- Hands-on experience with IBM iSeries (AS/400) environments
- Solid understanding of DB2 databases
- Experience analyzing and documenting legacy systems and business processes
- Ability to translate technical findings into clear, structured documentation
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in retail or similar high-transaction industries
- Familiarity with system integration and data migration concepts
- Long term interest in working with Java
