Director of Communications

Role: External Communications Lead

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

Schedule: In-office 3-4 days per week / 1-2 days WFH

Capstone Hill Search is partnering with a highly respected global investment firm to appoint an External Communications Lead. This is a rare opportunity to join a discreet, high-performance environment where communications is focused on issues management, media response, and stakeholder advisory, not proactive outreach.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and triage inbound media inquiries with discretion and sound judgment.
• Partner closely with an external PR agency on messaging, response strategy, and sensitive communications.
• Anticipate emerging issues or narratives and advise internal teams on appropriate preparation and positioning.
• Track coverage, manage the media inbox, and ensure internal stakeholders are briefed in real time.
• Support crisis and issues management alongside senior leadership.
• Build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders across trading, research, and business functions.
• Prepare executives and internal teams for conferences, panels, and external speaking engagements.

Requirements

• 8 years’ corporate communications experience in financial services, capital markets, or strategic communications.
• Demonstrated experience in issues and crisis management—calm, precise, and highly responsive.
• Skilled writer with the ability to craft clear, measured external messaging.
• Comfortable in low-profile environments where proactive media engagement is limited.
• High discretion and excellent judgment when handling sensitive information.
• Ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders, global colleagues, and agency partners.
• Familiarity with fast-moving global media cycles; understanding of Asia time zones is a plus.
• Thrives in a non-hierarchical, intellectually rigorous organization.
