WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The Senior Network Engineer reports directly to the Manager, IT Infrastructure. This position is responsible for expert support for all network technology implemented at CapMetro including advanced network design, planning, installation, administration, maintenance of network routers, switches, local area networks, wide area networks, wireless networks, telephony systems, network security, etc. This position will monitor and optimize the performance of the networks as well as all network attached devices. The Senior Network Engineer will provide advance direction and leadership to IT staff as well as expert knowledge in all systems technology projects. Work independently with minimal guidance on complex issues.

Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. This position works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for managing employees performing work of a complex nature.
Incumbent must be able to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use and horizontally. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment. Incumbents must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions.

Mobility Status
As a Remote position, your primary workplace is your home or another location in the state of Texas. The incumbent is expected to work in the office as needed and must have the ability to respond to a CapMetro facility within 24 hours if business needs require. Must be in-office for socialization, strategic collaboration, supervision, oversight, and accountability as needed. Mobility status is subject to change at any time based on business needs or organizational decisions.
This position is based in Austin, Texas. Successful out-of-state candidates must relocate to the state of Texas prior to start date.

Responsibilities
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

- Responsible for the management of wide area and local area network(s), maximizing network availability and systems utilization and ensuring adequate network security on a 24x7 basis.
- Anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues for process, product, or service improvements.
- Perform research, analysis and recommendations for products and services to meet new technologies, and upgrades as organizational needs change.
- Provide guidance to staff in the execution of assigned duties that support the information technology infrastructure.
- Review hardware and software specifications; evaluate bids and proposals.
- Implement and maintain the network security in conjunction with the Cyber Security Program Manager and makes recommendations for improvements.
- Responsible for the successful deployment of new network attached devices, including servers, and software.
- Perform tuning and capacity planning to enhance performance of the network.
- Perform system and user analysis to plan and implement short/mid-range hardware improvements.
- Perform system and user analysis to resolve complex system problems.
- Establish metrics to monitor all aspects of the network environment – health, capacity, performance, etc. according to industry standard best practices.
- Analyze monitors and optimize system/network performance.
- Solve unique and complex problems that have broad impact on the business.
- Provide input to supervisor for process change, enterprise system priorities and team goals.
- Manage maintenance and license agreements.
- Maintain hardware and software inventory.
- Lead the Network teams’ incident response efforts from the technology perspective and provides the content for the root cause analysis or incident tracking reports.
- Deal with vendors effectively to maximize value of network infrastructure to the business.
- Participate in the after-hours on call support rotation.
- Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by ensuring staff follows safety and security policies, considers safety in every action, and ensures safety and security concerns are reported.
- Perform other position related duties as required and/or assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelors in Computer Information Systems or related field. Relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis up to four (4) years.
- Six (6) years of progressively responsible IT experience in network and systems support with Cisco network certification, including four (4) years’ experience supporting Cisco networking within a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Advance network and system security experience required.
- Microsoft Server environment experience preferred.
- Citrix environment experience preferred.
- Virtualization experience preferred.
- Storage Area Network experience preferred.
- Customer service experience and working team concepts.
- Complex analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Expert knowledge of server management practices and switched Ethernet networks, topologies, and protocols (TCP/IP)
- Advance knowledge of telecommunications hardware and technologies
- Ability to simultaneously manage disparate projects while maintaining high levels of support of existing systems.
- Ability to forecast hardware requirements or other analysis associated with the implementation of new information technology.
