Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TOD/HH) - ESY - Per Diem Soundbridge
Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. Serving 33 member districts and reaching additional communities statewide, CREC supports approximately 12,000 students annually through more than 120 educational programs. Our offerings include professional learning and coaching for educators, specialized programming for students with diverse needs, and PreK-12 education across 16 interdistrict magnet schools. Additionally, CREC provides school construction, operations, and cooperative business services, while also delivering programs that help adults build real, job-ready skills.
Position Summary
The Soundbridge itinerant TOD/HH for ESY services works with students with hearing loss to help them maintain auditory and language skills for academic success. Soundbridge ESY services are focused on direct instruction targeting listening and language skills as determined by the PPT. Consultation to district staff may be provided upon district request.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES
- At the designated location and time, provide direct instructional services to students with hearing loss to help them maintain intelligible spoken language through listening, as a foundation for all academic learning.
- Troubleshoot and check hearing aids, cochlear implants, and RM-HAT systems routinely to be sure that children have optimal auditory access
- Prepare for instruction in a systematic manner using appropriate instructional technology, and provide written evidence of careful daily preparation.
- Maintain ongoing written records of student progress.
- Develop and maintain an instructional environment conducive to effective learning, including particular vigilance towards maintaining as quiet a learning environment as possible.
- Provide information regarding the unique hearing, listening, communication, educational, and self-advocacy needs of children with hearing loss.
- Collaborate with ESY district staff to provide a holistic approach
- Encourage students to use independence, self-advocacy, and responsibility.
- Provide progress updates and attendance records at the end of ESY services.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor and other central office administrators.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, And ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Aural Habilitation and Rehabilitation Strategies.
- Knowledge of listening and language development.
- Ability to read and implement an IEP.
- Monitor audiological devices for proper functioning.
- Ability to provide basic troubleshooting for such devices.
- Ability to distinguish learning challenges that are related to hearing loss from those related to others.
- Ability to provide support and consultation with the ESY team
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
- Knowledge of personalized instruction based upon student learning needs and styles.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Skill in meeting the educational needs of racially, ethnically, socioeconomically, and linguistically diverse groups of learners.
- Skill in identifying and building upon the unique talents and strengths of each student.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to coordinate work.
- Master's Degree in Education of the Deaf; CT 057 certification as a TOD/HH (or pending).
- Genuine interest in serving the needs of students with hearing loss and the ability to operate within the mission and philosophy of the program. The TOD/HH must be able to relate well to and communicate effectively with students, parents, school district personnel, and the staff of the program.
- Driving is required.
