CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts High School seeks part-time Media Arts Artist Instructor with expertise in emerging digital media disciplines. Under the guidance of the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts administration, the artist instructor will develop and deliver curriculum and instructional activities; will be responsible for differentiating instruction; developing presentations and exhibition opportunities and providing a safe and engaging learning environment. The Media Arts Artist Instructor will be responsible for teaching four courses a semester that will focus on design-based thinking, creative technology, and emerging digital media disciplines such as 3D modeling, game design, programming, graphic design, digital illustration, and/or interactive media.
Essential Functions:
Develop and deliver engaging curriculum and lesson plans using design thinking frameworks to guide students through creative inquiry, prototyping, and iteration.
Provide instruction in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, 3D modeling (e.g., Tinkercad, Blender, Fusion 360), game development (e.g., Construct 3, Unity, Scratch), programming (basic to intermediate), and other digital tools for interactive and immersive design.
Implementation and assessment of lessons to meet the needs of all learners.
Implement assessments that focus on creative problem-solving, skill development, and project completion.
Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
Recording of daily attendance, preparation of grades and comments on interim and quarterly reports for all students, in addition to regular communication with parents, social workers, school counselors regarding student progress.
Collaborate with fellow artist instructors and non-arts academic subjects on various school projects and initiatives.
Participate in the school community, including events, exhibitions, recruitment, and professional development.
Actively participates in the school community which may include student concerts, competitions, productions, exhibitions, and recruitment activities, open houses, regular faculty meetings as well as professional development activities, and prepares documentation necessary to support school events, activities and curriculum development.
Assists with non-instructional duties as needed (i.e., study halls etc.).
Create public-facing opportunities for students to present their work via showcases, digital galleries, or interactive installations.
Has a strong understanding of industry-relevant digital media skills and is able to communicate effectively with others.
Organized, exceptionally detail-oriented, focused, punctual, responsible and reliable.
Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in digital design and creative tech.
Must have extensive experience and/or schooling in digital media production.
Strong understanding of digital design, interactive design, 3d modeling, or creative coding.
Must have expertise with industry and consumer level digital media software.(ex. Adobe Creative cloud, Construct 3, Blender Unity, Tinkercad)
Knowledge of art curriculum and concepts in one or more art forms.
Ability to guide students through the design process, from brainstorming and prototyping to testing and final presentation.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
Ability to organize and maintain accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Experience helping students develop technical fluency alongside aesthetic and conceptual understanding.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Experience working with middle and/or high school-aged students.
Experience working in a high school setting is a plus.
Minimum requirement: a current State Department of Education Adjunct Instructor Permit and/or BA/BFA in related fields, plus relevant professional and/or teaching experience.
(1) hold a bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher education accredited by the Board of Governors of Higher Education, or regionally accredited,
(2) have a minimum of three years of work experience in the arts or one year of work and two years of specialized schooling related to the applicant’s artistic specialty, and
(3) at least one hundred eighty hours of cumulative experience working with children in a private or public setting, including, but not limit to, afterschool programs, group lessons, children’s programs, and artist-in-residence programs, or at least two years’ experience as a full-time faculty member at an institution of higher education or been employed by an eligible inter-district magnet school prior to July 1, 2011 and for at least one year.
Certification/License:
Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation to school site.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 20 hours a week.
Late Shift: 10:15 - 2:15pm
