Principal Engineer

Capitol Engineering & Automation provides professional engineering, system integration, and troubleshooting services as well as a panel shop for building custom electrical panels that are UL508A certified. The Principal Engineer is responsible for the daily operation and profitability of the business and is a working leader position..
The role of the Principal Engineer is to provide the leadership and direction necessary to sustain the company's growth and to achieve the Vision, Mission, and Values of AE Company. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for managing operations and reporting for Capitol Engineering & Automation as well as creating a strategic vision to grow the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting:
- The Principal Engineer reports directly to the President/CEO of AE Company.
- Analyze and present financial results of Capitol E&A operations.
People Management:
- Coordinate and oversee employee work activities and training.
- The Capitol E&A positions report directly to the Principal Engineer, which include, but are not limited to project managers, engineers, technicians, etc.
- Evaluates the performance of the employees reporting to him/her and reviews their evaluation with them regularly.
- Participates in the hiring, advising, counseling, and disciplining the employees reporting to her/him.
Other Responsibilities:
- Develop sales and execution strategy for Capitol E&A.
- Reviews quality systems, safety procedures, and training to protect company assets.
- Coordinates with the AE Company Safety and Risk Management departments regarding standards compliance, training, and reporting.

Qualifications:
- College degree in Engineering or related field.
- Current Kentucky PE license or reciprocal state with the ability to attain a Kentucky PE license.
- Two years' experience stamping drawings/designs.
- Five or more years’ experience in managing and deploying automation and controls systems (commercial/industrial) preferred.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Work Environment
- Primarily on-site at AE Company Frankfort office.
- Role occasionally requires working in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Some tasks may require working early morning, evening, or weekend hours depending on business needs.
