Job Summary
The Small Bindery Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining small bindery equipment to finish printed materials according to customer specifications and production schedules. This role ensures high-quality output, efficient workflow, and safe operation of bindery machinery. The operator will also backup digital printing as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate small bindery equipment such as cutters, folders, stitchers, laminators, padding machines, and collators
- Set up machines for jobs according to work orders and production specifications
- Inspect printed materials for quality, alignment, and finishing accuracy
- Perform trimming, folding, stapling, binding, laminating, and packaging of printed products
- Maintain production schedules and meet deadlines
- Monitor equipment performance and make minor adjustments as needed
- Keep work area clean and organized
- Follow safety procedures and company policies
- Report equipment issues or material shortages to supervisor
- Assist with shipping, packaging, and general production tasks as needed
- Communicate with other team members to coordinate workflow, prioritize jobs, and meet production schedules.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–2 years of bindery or print shop experience preferred (entry-level candidates may be considered)
- Ability to operate small bindery machinery safely and efficiently
- Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to read work orders and follow instructions
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40–50 pounds
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a commercial print environment
- Familiarity with paper types and finishing techniques
- Basic troubleshooting and machine maintenance skills
- Experience with quality control and production tracking
