Position Overview

The Utility Laborer supports the safe and efficient operation of the aggregate plant by performing a variety of general labor, maintenance, and cleanup tasks. This role operates light and heavy equipment, assists with maintenance activities, and ensures a clean and safe work environment throughout the plant. The Utility Laborer is critical to keeping plant operations running smoothly and safely.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)

* Perform general housekeeping activities across all areas of the plant, including cleanup of material spillage and debris.
* Operate equipment such as skid steers (Bobcats), front-end loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks to support plant operations and cleanup efforts.
* Assist maintenance personnel with routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, greasing equipment, and replacing basic components.
* Utilize hand and power tools such as shovels, brooms, air hammers, and air chipping guns for various plant maintenance and cleaning tasks.
* Stack, organize, and relocate materials and supplies as directed.
* Complete equipment safety checklists and maintain plant logs accurately and timely.
* Responsible for completing area audits.
* Maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition at all times.
* Responsible to abide by and support all company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.

Education & Experience
* High School Diploma or GED preferred.
* Six months of experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., skid steer, front-end loader, dump truck) preferred but not required.
* Experience in stone plant, mining, or construction site environments preferred but not required.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical equipment. The role involves regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, outdoor weather elements, and a variety of work surfaces, including stairs, flat areas, sloped, and uneven terrain. Occasional exposure to chemicals, solvents, fumes, acids, grease, and fuels should be expected. The employee may also work in confined or restricted spaces at times. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud, requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

* Ability to perform job task assignments 8 to 14 hours per day, 6 days a week and occasionally 7 days a week.
* Ability to lift 50 lbs. ground to shoulder height frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally
* Requires corrected vision, manual and finger dexterity and hearing to normal range
* Ability to perform tasks on rough, uneven surfaces and terrain
* Ability to work at heights, in cramped places and around moving objects
* Ability to work outside up to 100% of the time
* Capable of speaking, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, climbing ladder and stairs, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping for periods extending to twelve (16) hours per shift.
* Ability to use/wear personal protective equipment, respirators, hearing protection, gloves, protective eyewear, hardhats, protective clothing, and industrial footwear.
* Ability to hear and discriminate between sounds in order to be aware of surroundings.

What You'll Do

  • Operate equipment such as skid steers, front-end loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks as assigned.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with routine maintenance and basic equipment servicing.
  • Utilize hand and power tools to support plant maintenance and cleanup tasks.
  • Complete safety checklists, area audits, and required plant documentation.
  • Follow all company, plant, and MSHA safety policies and procedures.
