What are the responsibilities and job description for the PRN Sterile Processing Technician position at Capital Surgical Solutions?
Job Summary:
Disassemble, clean, sterilize and store, trays, instruments, equipment and supplies according to the prescribed procedure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Sterilize instruments, equipment, utensils, linens and supplies using various sterilizers. Performs Bowie Dick testing every morning, load autoclaves in the prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to material and requirements of items being sterilized. Complete appropriate documentation records prior to sterilization, read and initial sterilizer print-outs to verify appropriate sterilization cycle and provide required records for various state agencies, maintain required documentation on sterilization loads.
2. Assemble all instrument procedure trays, packs and kits according to the prescribed manner. Wrap packages and handle all items following procedures, mark items with identifying data and distribute or store in designated areas. Notify supervisor when unable to replace parts or with equipment deficiencies.
3. Disassemble and clean equipment using approved disinfectants, detergents, soaps and cleaners, reassemble equipment after cleaning and operate to test for proper functioning, replace lost or damaged parts such as tubes, containers and connectors from stock on hand. Complete required forms for inoperable equipment.
4. Complete weekly inventory and submit requests for disposable supplies.
5. Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials and to maintain a safe work environment.
6. Other duties as requested by your supervisor
Education and Experience:
· Certified as Surgical Technician in the State of Maryland
· Minimum 1 year experience in acute care or ambulatory surgery setting
· Effective communication skills
Physical Requirements:
Must able to lift, push and pull objects up to 25-50 pounds, endure prolonged standing, walking, bending, and reaching to move instrument trays, carts, and other medical equipment throughout the cleaning and sterilization process.
